Friendships enter your life sometimes in the most mysterious and unexpected ways. I have always believed that people are placed into your life for a reason. Julie Thornton is one of those people. Julie grew up and went to college in Indiana. After college, she moved to Chicago to start a career, a marriage and a family. In 2013, her life was unexpectedly turned upside down when her family experienced firsthand the tragedy of suicide. She was left with two young children and a life to manage. So, she started anew. She moved to Pittsburgh because it looked like the kind of place where the standard of living was high but the cost wasn't so high. She wanted to find the best possible education for her kids and we had the good fortune to meet at ShadySide Academy where our children go to school.
In Pittsburgh, Julie launched her own executive coaching company where she works with both start-ups in the Pittsburgh region and also alums from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. She finds huge rewards in helping others to be the very best version of themselves. She is also a tireless advocate for legitimizing mental health issues and bringing attention to the epidemic of suicide. She is a volunteer for the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Society for Suicide Prevention and plans to run in the Chicago Marathon as part of ASFP. If you or someone you know has been impacted by suicide, asfp.org is a great resource.
Julie has many titles: mother, wife, coach, volunteer, advocate and friend. We are so happy that she is a part of the Louise Bentley Jewelry With Purpose Family as we can think of no better inspiration than the example she sets every day.
